I am thrilled to be a part of the Family Medicine Obstetrical team here in Almonte.
I was born and raised in Barrhaven. I then spent 8 years in Kingston Ontario attending Queen’s University for my undergraduate degree (B Sc (H) Biochemistry) and medical school. I moved to Mississauga, Ontario to complete my residency in Family medicine at Credit Valley Hospital as a community site of University of Toronto. I also completed an additional training program for low risk obstetrics to further my skills in maternal care.
I then moved to Bowmanville Ontario and practiced full scope family medicine for 8 years. I then moved back home to the Ottawa area in 2017 to be closer to family.
Maternity and newborn care is my passion. Guiding mothers through pregnancy and early postpartum brings me great joy. I work with an amazing team of physicians, nurses and other health professionals here at Almonte.
I am a mother to 2 youngsters who keep me busy on my off hours with swimming, karate and enjoying the outdoors.
According to Dr McGarry the best thing about delivering the babies of OVFHT patients, is that it is a "family" practice event in every sense of the word. Care of the whole family before, during and after the baby's birth is a uniquely rewarding journey.
Dr McGarry graduated from med school in 1990, and first practiced OB in Kingston Ontario. After a hiatus while she raised her own children, she returned to OB practice in Almonte.
Dr McGarry could not be happier with her OB colleagues whom she describes as very skilled and reilable, as well as collegial practice partners. Almonte is a gem of a small community and according to Dr McGarry the perfect place to give birth in a relaxed setting, with one on one nursing support. Dr McGarry is thrilled to be caring for moms before, during and after pregnancy and cannot wait for the practice to grow.
I am thrilled to return to my hometown of Almonte to deliver babies at the Almonte General Hospital! It is a pleasure to work with the amazing team at Ottawa Valley Family Medicine Obstetrics to provide comprehensive care to our moms and babies.
I completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biomedical Science at the University of Ottawa, followed by medical school at the University of Ottawa. I obtained my Family Medicine Residency training at Queen’s University and an additional rural skills fellowship at Queen’s University with a focus on Obstetrical care. I spent my first 2 years in practice working with the family medicine obstetrics group at Lakeridge Health Oshawa before deciding to move back home.
I began working with the team in Summer 2019, and established my own practice in Almonte in Spring 2020.
Having grown up in Almonte and now raising my young family here, it is an honour to care for women and their growing families with our wonderful team.
I have a Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University, Master’s of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto and Medical Doctorate from McMaster University. I completed my residency with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine with specific focus on obstetrics in both rural and high volume settings.
Having cared for new families in many hospitals, the Almonte General Hospital is an especially lovely place to give birth. The support families receive from our caring nurses, doctors and other staff reflects Almonte’s “friendly town” reputation.
Like my colleagues, I want to provide you with the best possible support during this special time of life. We are attentive to maternal mental health, breastfeeding support and providing you information to empower your pregnancy, birth and postpartum experiences.!
I grew up in Ottawa and then did my Honours Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and English Literature at the University of Toronto, followed by medical school and Family Medicine residency at Queen’s.
After an extra year of rural skills training including obstetrics in Toronto, Ottawa, and Nunavut, I’ve gone on to practise medicine both close to home (Perth, Almonte, and Ottawa) and quite far away (Yellowknife and the Falkland Islands).
I’ve been doing prenatal care and delivering babies at the Almonte General Hospital on and off since 2018 and love working with the Ottawa Valley Family Medicine Obstetrics team!
